That’s not average at all! It’s way overblown. I recommend you to use any rig you have, it doesn’t matter, Blender runs in a potato if needed. There are very very few things that you can’t do with a weak computer, but most of things you can do, just slower. You also tend to naturally cater your art asset’s quality around your computer’s power level. And you also learn to optimize and compromise. Trust me, the rig is never the barrier of entry, you wouldn’t believe how weak and old my computer was when I made the first Peridot and Undyne renders, and how weak it was even before that.
I meet a lot of people that use their computer’s power as an excuse to never get into 3D. Never do that!. Otherwise I’ll prove you with numbers that your current computer is actually stronger than mine was.
For the Muffet render with her pet, 150 hours was a completetly outlandish number. Again, overblown and not an average at all! I just wanted to push the envelope for a change, after being so used to constraints.
The time was due to all the things that I’ve packed in the render, namely the micro geometry and the subsurface scattering material of the Muffin monster, as well as the resolution.
At first I was going to use a resolution of 0.5 pixels per triangle, that required 13GB!! of ram, but the renderfarms I used gave me errors and wouldn’t render, so I reduced the microgeometry resolution to 1 pixel per triangle. 8gb of ram at the end. (I used Foxrenderfarm btw, using 40$ worth of free coupons)
This was also at a time when I only had CPU so I couldn’t do GPU render (although I wouldn’t have been able to use GPU render regardless due to the memory requirements of the microgeometry) My most recent renders at 2K resolution take about 10, 30, 50 minutes on my gtx1060, although they’re not as complex, they’re mostly characters floating in space, that’s more of the average.
The most accurate way to calculate the final render time is to do smaller test renders, like with 1/10 the final resolution and 1/10 the final sample count, substract the build time, and then multiply the seconds by 1000. This is way more accurate than trusting the “remaining time” info at the top. That’s how I was able to calculate the final time of 150 hours without actually doing it, and how I decided to use an online renderfarm service. I also used the calculators of several online renderfarms and the numbers agreed more or less. I had to make tests at full resolution too, since the adaptative microgeometry of the Muffin depends on the pixels, to see how much the build time and memory consumption were affected. In the end, in Foxrenderfarm, the final render took 9 hours

Thank you! (Damn, this was supposed to be a quick pose and render but I got carried away. I guess I need to produce art, not just models, to attract folks that don’t use 3d models to my Patreon)
–Patreon–
–Twitter–
–Gumroad–
Edit: Go here to see in higher resolution.

A lot of people have suggested me doing both! So that’s what we’re doing. I’m not a good business person, so instead of hoarding the models that people want for so long because I can’t think of a good way to monetize them, I’ll just release the models for everyone for free, update them and work on them, and trust in the fans to help me and support me in any way they want. No unfeasible rewards or complex tiers or polls or anything, just free models and pure donation. Partially inspired by others 3d artists running a similar Patreon, as well as the fans and friends that suggested it.
Which models?
As many of my old ones as I can, including Peridot, Muffet, Undyne… not only the high poly Blender versions, but lowpoly ports to be used elsewhere. As well as future models.
What’s the plan?
-I’ll clean up each old models to upload the 1st workable version, since they were intended just for renders, not for general use. Fixing their Blender rigs a little and whatnot. I’m already doing that, you can catch me at picarto.tv/wo262 streaming while I work on them.
-Progresively do the same with each model and release them little by little. Not all at once
-Keep updating the already uploaded models into new versions with fixes and small upgrades, either things I had planned or suggestions. That’s the best way to not keep people waiting!
-Work on lowpoly versions of the models and texture work, so the materials at least are compatible with Unreal, Unity for VRchat, SFM… But it will mostly be modelling and material work, I’m still undecided on rigs. There are people with more experience than me in VRchat and SFM rigs, the models with come with the crappy Blender rig that I made for my own use in the meantime
-Do random renders and scenes with the models
-Eventually make new models and characters
-More random updates like unseen renders, small tutorials, small prop models (like DONGS) etc
Where?
My Patreon is the same URL as before, Patreon.com/wo262 Follow me here, or there to see updates.
The models will be initially uploaded to Gumroad as 0$ product, since there’s pretty much no filesize or bandwith limitation, as well as being able to update a file, but if there are other limitations that don’t work, I will chose another site.
You already know my Picarto.tv/wo262
Thank you!^^
I won’t make new renders of her. On top of that, the futa is nothing special, just a floating pengus, disconnected from the body, but have 2 renders I made back in december of 2015 that show her feet. I did purposely hide them because they’re kind of weird

You read it right, this is not working out, and Lord Dominator will be put on hold. Why do I quit?
For one, I decided time ago to do both Patreon and private commissions at the same time, but I can’t avoid giving priority to commissions, they are a safer source of income, thus I keep neglecting the Patreon characters.
Second, I never improved at my goal of modelling commissions or Patreon characters faster. I’m ashamed of admitting it, ashamed of being it, but I’m slow and lazy. As of now, I get distracted a lot and have low stamina when working continuous stretches of time on commissions or Patreon. I don’t like being that way and for sure I haven’t given up on changing and becoming a hard working person, but there’s no guarantee I will. I do have a dayjob as well, but it’s part time, so I really have no excuse to model more in my free time either.
Then, @blenderknight made a nice Lord Dominator that left me really depressed. We started around the same time and not only did he finish faster, it was animated, wasn’t made for money, and is IMO better than what I am currently doing with my Lord Dominator. I get stuck trying to improve in every aspect over his model.
And lastly, it’s not fair to keep people waiting on a promise, so it’s better not make the promise at all with this Patreon. It’s unnaceptable of me to be so delayed. I don’t deserve your patience. Will I open Patreon again in the future? Only if I can guarantee a way of not keeping people waiting on content.
Make sure to remove your current pledge. The Patreon page will remain up but with this post on the front. Thank you, thanks to everyone, for your support. I will keep posting commissions on tumblr. Peace and love!
